Business Benchmarks are produced annually from surveys of a variety of Australian small business surveys. These are then broken down into a number of sub-groups based on the features of the industry, such as:
- Sale size, fee level, or turnover
- Gross profit and net profit
- Location (often presented as "metropolitan" v "non-metropolitan")
- Whether premises are owned, or rented
- A range of other indicators e.g. whether a contracting firm uses a lot or a little of employee labour.
Do you understand where your profit comes from? Or where it goes? These Benchmarks are essential to understanding where changes need to be made. With these, you have indicators for example, whether to:
- Increase sales without increasing expenses, or
- Improve your GP percentage, or
- Reduce stock levels, or
- Control Expenses, or
- Reduce debtors days outstanding, or maybe
- Increase staff productivity.
